Understanding Leaf Pick-up

The village leaf pick-up service is dependent on leaves being dry. The village uses a vehicle with a vacuum system. Wet leaves stick to the pavement and each other. Snow melt, rain, clouds and cool temperatures all prevent leaves from drying.  The official last day of pick-up is Wednesday, November 27 (due to the Thanksgiving holiday), but the vac vehicle is only dispatched when it works–meaning when leaves are dry. Village workers are otherwise assigned to other projects.

(Unfortunately, it also bears repeating–leaf piles cannot include vines, brush, other yard waste, construction materials or pet feces. Leaf piles with such materials will not be picked up.)

Wishing you dry leaves and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
