Study shows Elk Rapids can support Hotel/Conference Center

Results are in showing Elk Rapids can support a small hotel/conference Center. Thanks to the Downtown Development Authority, the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and several generous donors supporting the study conducted by Hospitality Advisors Consulting Group, we have the data to support our wishes to bring local accommodations to the Elk Rapids Community.

The Village of Elk Rapids is ready to talk to anyone willing to commit to making this project a reality.

The study was done throughout our community and surrounding businesses, not focusing on any one single property, but listening to the business owners that are anxious to see the development that will bring and keep your events and visitors within the community.

Finding the right sized location within the village will be a challenge, but we are certain willing investors and developers can find the ideal 2 to 3 acres to build a 40-60 room hotel with a 5,000 to 10,000 ft. event space.

Jan Bassett, DDA Chair stated “The right property may currently be vacant, privately or government owned, or have a building or business that can be re-located. We have the data to support our dreams, and we know it will happen.”

The report contains five year projections for occupancy, revenues and expenses. The report states:

“The development of a conference/banquet facility in conjunction with the hotel would impact hotel utilization/revenue and provide a facility for local events both social and commercial. That being said, the development of such a facility creates a financial risk for any developer.”

“Access to statewide snowmobile trail system in Northern Michigan, as well a access to non-motorized biking and jogging trails connecting Charlevoix and Traverse City from the hotel site would be a big plus during off-season and would impact the development significantly.”
